Game Over

It's the final weekend of the season and the Royals have the honor of closing the pit known as the Metrodome. (By the way, the new stadium in Minneapolis apparently doens't have a roof.  Yeah, that will be great next April.)

Aside from the final regular season baseball in the Metrodome, the Royals are still playing for something.  Since the Twins are just a game back from the Tigers in the Central, the boys in blue have something to say about the outcome of this race.  Minnesota will need to win at least two of the three to have any chance - they'll have to hope the White Sox win two in Detroit.  It's a long shot, but you never know.

Of course, the only thing that's truly interesting about this series is Zack Greinke's final start will come on Saturday in the nationally televised FOX game.  I have an article up at The Hardball Times that breaks down the Cy Young candidates in the AL.  Lots of graphs and charts to help the voters.

I officially quit on this team after the Farnsworth debacle the other day.  I'm no longer interested in the 2009 Royals. (As far as breakups go, this was easy.)  I need a break from the genius of SABR Trey and the Process of Dayton Moore.  I need less of Yuniesky Betancourt's rancid defense and Mike Jacobs' strikeouts on sliders outside of the strike zone.  I'm tired of watching Miguel Olivo behind the plate and Wee Willie Bloomquist playing nearly everyday.

I do need more Greinke and Billy Butler.  Thanks to those guys for doing their best to salvage a miserable season here in Kansas City.  Your efforts were appreciated and give us a glimmer of hope going into 2010.

Goodbye, 2009.

Good riddance.

The Twins trail the Tigers by 2 games, actually. The Twins need to sweep the Royals and hope for 2 Tigers losses (or 3 for the outright championship), or win 2 of 3 and hope the Tigers get swept. It's rather unlikely but I'd certainly like to see the Tigers choke.

Last year it was the White Sox who stole the division from the Twins. This year maybe the White Sox will steal the division away from the Tigers.

Looks like the Royals won't be closing out the Metrodome after all.

fitting end -game 161 Hillman mismanages the pen to the point where the Royals biggest shill Ryan LeFebvre was actually 2nd guessing leaving Hughs in after the game-

not that any of it mattered but we end where we began -so Sabretrey go get em 2010

One thing I would like to see regarding the Royals in 2010 is regarding our bullpen. I see other teams take young potiental starting pitchers and put them in long relief bullpen roles to get their feet wet, while controling the pressure of the situation in which they pitch. At the same time providing them with spot starts to give our overworked rotation dates off. I don't know the last time that the Royals have taken this approach with young drafted pitchers. Is this a style that the Royals chose not to adopt? I assume this has something to do with service time? This really seemed to help Grienke and I would like to see this same approach taken with Crow.

Craig I appreciate the work you have done writing on the Royals. Can't blame your for giving up on these guys. It is clear that Moore is just another arrogant twit who happened to be a part of a good organization and made the most of it. He is totally blind to his numerous mistakes. He thinks the acquisition of a guy (Bloomquist) who throws up .663 OPS while playing mostly right field was a good move.

This club has no hope unless several guys miraculously survive the Royals development process and actually become good players.
