Carlos Rosa traded tonight. MLB network (not on Royals website yet) traded to Arizona for SS Rey Navarro. Navarro is 20 years old and was in A ball last year, + speed with potential to develop some power poor plate discipline (of course) + range, avg arm, stiff hands projected starting SS in 2012. rated 8 E by M.B. Analyst 8= solid regular and E = 10% chance to reach the cieling meaning toolsy and raw. John Sickles gives him a C rating not as enthused as MBA, he was a 3rd rd pick out of Puerto Rico in 2007. Sickles agrees he has enough pop and speed to be an interesting player but without the plate discipline he is more likely a utility player, 2010 is a turning point year for him.

Sounds like they at least got a talented if not risky prospect for Rosa who we clearly gave up on. Navarro may be our new SS of the future as Moore plays for 2012. Maaaaaaybee he turns out but he soundls like the kind of SS we keep falling all over ourselves for and doesn't develop
A ball last year .262 .308 onbase .339 slugging 27 walks 85 K's 29 e's in 118 games but improved from 08 when he made 38 errors in only 70 games.

I was a proponent of putting Guillen in the field with the caveat the bring up Kila and play him at DH, so I give Dayton a partial pass on that

But here's what I don't get - the other day , down 1 in the 8th with 2 outs and Callaspo on 1st and Jason Kendall up, they pinch run Gordon for callaspo knowing a) if Kendall gets a hit it probably won't be hard enough to score anyone from 1st and b) Willie Bloomquist and his abysmal batting average and zero power is going to be up next inning and they might want to pinch hit for him.

Tonight, in the 9th inning with Guillen on 2nd, one out, with a 2 run lead, they DON'T pinch run Gordon for Guillen, which makes no sense - game is almost over, an insurance run would be freaking real nice here, and we shouldn't have to bat again so we don't need to save a pinch hitter in this case.

Hillman is a moron.

"Hillman basically lacks the intelligence & education to relate this sort of stuff to team performance"

If that in any way relates or translates into "Hillman is a bit of a soft touch",i'll very much agree with you!

Ironically his man-management skills i would guess are his main clubhouse strength cause if you went by tactical decisions on the field etc,he would have player after player trying to climb out the ball park wall to get away!

the continuing managing incompetence, and how our fans fail to relate it to winning and losing continues to boggle my mind. how can Hillman be this stupid to put Guillen into the field again, and what does this do to the atmosphere in the clubhouse and confidence/lack of confidence in their manager and team. Hillman basically lacks the intelligence and education to relate this sort of stuff to team performance imo.

Good stuff Craig. I'm interested to see what GMDM does with the bullpen if it maintains its current performance. I can't imagine an in-season trade for a reliever, and I hope he's just waiting until June to call up Rosa or some Omaha guys. Just don't go to a 9-man bullpen.

Maybe we're not giving Trey enough credit - Maybe Guillen in the field on turf is part of a plan to get him injured so we can unclog the DH spot for Kila.

Along that line, today's outfield lineup: Guillen, Ankiel, and Bloomquist!
