Apart from a cameo part from DeJesus was Wee Willie Bloomquist the only Royals player playing last night?

If Aviles has another stinker like that one i'll be campaigning for Wee Willie to be our everyday 2B,dodgy knees or no dodgy knees!

Soon as Jose departs,Kila should be called straight away,no questions asked!

How many AAA players have been written off only to breakthrough in there own time...?

I'll turn the argument around on Kila, the point should be that if you DO NOT tear up the minors, you have a slim to none chance of being a productive major leaguer. So give the kid a shot after July. Worst case you make room for the next in line, best case you find another Ibanez. Osuna is a prime example on the pitching side. Look at Chen's stats on the farm, and I think we can agree he's the 11th or 12th option at best on a good team in the show.

At the risk of turning this into Kila 'no he isn't, yes he is thread' I just don't get this:
"Camel -- Please stop the Kila talk. Dude is a AAA hitter, no more."

I'm not claiming he's going to hit in the majors although I would lean towards the fact that he likely will. Here are his career major league numbers:
.280/.357/.400. w/ 3 BB in 28 plate appearances. Those slash numbers would put him in or around the Top 5 in each case for our current roster.

This sample size means little or nothing for my argument, but equally means nothing to yours. How do we know? He sure dominates at AAA and has been above average in his limited major league experience. I'd sure like to see him get a shot instead of Guillen or Ankiel (who we ALL can agree have no future with the Royals).

Tejeda -Wood-Soria is a nice bridge and certainly an improvement from ST mess. Wood should have been here from start. We're not out of the woods haha yet. His K rate as mentioned at this early juncture is very low below 2 per 9, small sample so I'm not sweating it, then I hear he's a 1 pitch pitcher by his own admission nothing but fastballs, a heavy fb with good movement but still I am worried league is catching up quick if this is the case. He looked very strong last night challenging the hitters but there is more observation to be done.

Tejeda is having a very long streak of command. That is significan. I keep waiting for the wildness to return but he's been in a groove for awhile, I'm buying into him. The Royals really are playing at optimum level, getting about as much as can be gotten from this version, maybe more from Grienke, Getz could add more but most of the lineup at staff is playing at a high level to their skill rate. For what it's worth.

CL, I've thought about that. But normally it isn't 1 v 1. With the different off-days, injuries, DL stints and such it is usually pretty random which slot faces which slot. Outside of the first week of the season and the first week after the all star break, it doesn't work out that way

Completely off-topic strategy question (and this has crossed my mind a number of times):

Does it really make sense to set up your rotation such that (at least at the beginning of the season) your number 1 goes against their number 1, your 2 vs. their 2, etc?

Wouldn't it be better strategy to put your 5 vs. their 1 (assume that's a loss 80% of the time), then your 1 vs. their 2, your 2 vs their 3, your 3 vs. their 4, etc?

I guess my question really comes down to the fact that when it's your strongest guy vs their strongest guy, you're giving yourself less of a chance than when it's your strongest vs. their 2nd strongest (assuming there's at least some separation between the talent levels of their 1 and 2).

I look at Greinke, and see we've lost a fair number of games even when he's only giving up 1 or 2 runs because our offense can't get anything going against their ace. Now put Greinke against their 2 and maybe our guys scratch across an extra run or two and now we win those games because we set up the rotation to give us an advantage.

Strategically, it would make more sense to pitch your 5 against their 1, your 1 vs their 2, 2 vs 3, 3 vs 4, and 4 vs 5. Yes you're winning percentage against their ace probably goes down (from a theoretical 50% to maybe 15%), but you should get a theoretical advantage in every other match-up (from 50% to say 59%).

Thoughts?
