sorry for the late response, but my time was extremely limited this week. Sorry for the confusion, but I was just visiting the Boston area. I don't actually live there. Otherwise I would be happy to meet up with readers for a ballgame.

Big lee:
"Surely you are not suggesting the Royals could do the same"

Not really, but I was just pointing out that the Royals and White Sox were in the same place prior to thier 11 game winning streak and now they are in the race. So, my point was that the Royals needed to do something similar IF they wanted to be in contention. I always root for it to happen, but I don't exactly bet the house on it.

Kempster:

"It’s one thing to be realistic (i.e., we’re not a contender, we’re a few years away) and another to be optimistic at the same time."

I think that is exactly right, but it is pretty difficult to do that. I understand the frustrations and I am extremely frustrated myself. I think that realism is important, but so is a measure of hope. there are reasons to criticize this team, and I will do that. But there are reasons for hope, and there are reasons to be optimistic. I still realize that we are talking about a game, and it is supposed to be fun and entertaining. My job as a writer is to accentuate that experience with discussion and analysis. Being one-dimensional and negative does not do that in my opinion, however neither does being a sunshine pumper with no crticism. Its a tough balance and one I don't think I have perfected it, but I am trying.

Wayland - I think he was on a tight pitch count... They're treating him like it's spring training. Also, it sounds like he struggled a bit - faced four batters and three reached... It's possible they got him out of there quickly to prevent his confidence from slipping. Or something like that. Anyway, it's good he's back.

Nick -
Over 15,000 fans showed up to the ballpark last night to see the Royals Vs White Sox. It was a Monday night following a sell-out weekend and the team was 9.5 games out of first and hasn’t been to the playoffs since 1985. Seriously, this is a baseball town filled with fans ready to win ball games. It is going to happen, someday.

Thank you. Finally. Forgive me, I haven't read your blog in awhile, but I get REAL tired of guys like Rob Neyer (who are Royals fans) slamming this team. It's one thing to be realistic (i.e., we're not a contender, we're a few years away) and another to be optimistic at the same time. I'm sick and tired of the media trashing this team. Anytime there's a "horrible baseball team" reference brought up, the witless media generally throws out the Royals. Nobody's claiming we're going to win the World Series anytime soon, but this team isn't as bad as a few other teams out there, and have a bright future. Thanks for pointing that out.

Nick-In your 7th bullet you note how White Sox have moved back into playoff contention with an 11-game winnning streak. Surely you are not suggesting the Royals could do the same. KC is in great shape right now, with pieces that teams are interested in for trades (mlbtrades.com is all over this). Let's hope braintrust continues to build towards a real run for playoffs in 2013, and doesn't shoot it wad for something now. When teams are expressing an interest in Farnsy, Bloomquist, and Guillen, then Moore must listen and not ask for too much in return. DDJ and virtually anyone else is fair game as well, but asking price must be right.

Moore must continue to look for future catcher, shortstop, and as always, pitchers. Yuni was exposed last night. Let's have more Aviles at short, with a plethora of other options at 2B.
