Dickerson is on the 60 day DL and eligible to come off this week, I believe. He started a rehab assignment in the minors, had a setback and is hoping to get back to swinging shortly. Walter, are you confusing Chris Dickerson with former Royals' prospect Joe Dickerson, who retired last season?

As assistant GM. I would like to bring to the attension that I believe Dickerson retired due to his bad wrist. Looking at the Reds roster plus DL, he is not listed. I did not check minors or google his name. Lets try Farnsworth - Blomquest to St Louis or include them to Boston instead of Aviles.

I would trade Alberto Callaspo to the Angels for Sean O'Sullivan and rapper/actor Will Smith. Preferably a lefty, because we could use a few more lefties in the minors.

Sorry....Clarke it is!

Yeah the Dickerson deal makes sense, allways liked this player seen a lot of him with the Louiville Bats, great lead off hitter with some pop...

Two great players we give up but FA beckons & both on comparatively high wages!

While I understand that the chances of even one of these moves actually happening is very slim, I thoroughly enjoyed the read and certainly can't argue with the thought process (I've begun to wince at that word). I'm all for moves like the ones you suggest. If I woke up as GM, I'd do what I could to improve depth in middle infield, corner OF, and C, in that order. I'd look for near-major league ready guys (upper minors at least). Might the Reds see the Cardinals slipping away and consider including C Devin Mesoraco and/or SS Zack Cozart for a Farnsworth/Bloomquist package? Maybe we'd need to sweeten the pot by including a minor league arm?

I think DeJesus will get traded by July 31; I just get the feeling. He's probalby one of my top 5 all time favorite Royals, but it just seems like they're moving him around the outfield to demonstrate his versatility (ability to still cut it in CF) - showcasing him if you will. His value will likely never be higher so I can't argue that it's the right time to move. I think Boston for a deal including Kalish or one of the California teams (SF or SD), but I'd ask for M. Bumgarner and S. Castro so a deal doesn't seem likely. Still, as you said, there's no pressing need to trade DJ, but someone might get desperate.

Anyway, thanks for the article. Interesting stuff to think about.

Based on Mr. Dave's analysis (I realize all analysis is subject to debate) I wouldn't want to part with Aviles for that package. If Weiland projects as a bullpen arm then is Pods enough to get him? Almost certainly not since there's some hope he's a starter. Perhaps we can find another landing spot for Pods as I would like to see Kila & Gordon up here ASAP.

I'm from the Boston area, so I can give a bit of insight on the Boston prospects:

There is no way the Sox are trading Iglesias. They feel he is two years away, and specifically signed Scutaro as a bridge until he is ready. Lin is a nice lead-off or number two type hitter with great range in center. Not a lot of power, but he hits the ball to all fields, has a good eye at the plate and great speed. Weiland has a fastball in the low to mid 90's, a decent change and a potentially good slurve if he works on it. He's got problems against lefties, so I think he's going to end up as a bullpen arm even though he's a starter right now.

Only thing in the trades I don't like is Dickerson. I don't think he's anything beyond a 4A player. Even though he's been hurt and hasn't had much of an opportunity to play in Cincy, I think they don't feel he can be an every day hitter. In fact, Cincy is playing Yonder Alonso, one of their top prospects and a first baseman by trade, in the outfield to try to get his bat in the majors soon. Cincy *does* have openings in the outfield, and I think it's an indictment against Dickerson that he hasn't played.
