When I was living in New York, I went to a few Long island independant games when John Rocker was there. Mainly, I wanted to see how much of a train wreck that would be. Otherwise, I don't think too many people pay that much attention to the independant leagues.

I'm not too concerned about O'Sullivan's start. I think that once he starts facing teams that he isn't facing back to back, then we'll be able to get a much better idea as to how effective he'll be in the rotation. I still feel that he is a back of the rotation or long relief type, but maybe he turns out better.

Let's just let Dayton Moore go ahead and get Francouer. There might be no other way to prove to Moore that Francouer is not any good and put this to rest once and for all. The sad thing is the Francouer could be useful as a platoon player, but he makes far too much money for a platoon guy and the Royals haven't shown a lot of willingness to employ platoons.

While I am all for the Royals keeping and building upon Soria and Greinke, these two deals if done would set the Royals up for the long haul. Jesus Montero, c, (BA#5) has been offered as a centerpiece for Soria. According to mlb.com this kid is for real and has raw power from the right side of the plate. Also included in that deal could have been Austin Romine, c, (BA#41) or middle level pitching prospects.

Meanwhile, supposedly the Rays have been inquiring about Greinke, and what it would take for me it would be nothing less than, Desmond Jennings,OF, Wade Davis, RHP, and Jeremy Hellickson, P. This would be a huge blockbuster trade for both teams. While it is very unlikely that the Rays would want to give away 3 key top 50 prospects it would pay off for the Royals.

In conjunction with a trade of Jose Guillen bringing in a middle level prospect, the Royals letting Scott Posednik walk (they get compensation pick), and moving a couple other guys the Royals are set.

According to mlb.com's Top 50 prospects with these two trades the Royals would have rights to 8 of them.

The minor league system would look like this...
P: Wade Davis, Jeremy Hellickson, Aaron Crow, Mike Montgomery, John Lamb, Tim Melville, Chris Dwyer, Danny Duffy and Noel Arguelles
1B/C/DH: Kila, Jesus Montero, Austin Romine?, Wil Myers, Eric Hosmer, Salvador Perez
2B/SS: Christian Colon, Jeff Bianchi, Johnny Giovotella
3B: Mike Moustakas
OF: Derrick Robinson, Brett Eibner, David Lough, Jordan Parraz, Tim Smith

Looks pretty good, huh. I think if the fans did their research they would be just as excited about the Royals even if Greinke and Soria were traded.

I have season tickets to the Lincoln Saltdogs, who are in the same I-League as the Wichita Wignuts, Ft. Worth Cats, Sious Falls Pheasants and Shreveport Captains, among others. Ten dollars gets you on the aisle three rows behind the dugout, lots for the kids to do, nice ballpark, cold beer. It's not great baseball by any means, but not horrible either - probably equivalent to High A type play without the superstar prospects.

Nate Field is an ex-Indy guy who played for the Royals a few years back. The Saltdogs had Chris Jabouskas (sp?), who pitched for the Mariners last year and the Pirates early this year until he took a line drive to the head.

Aaron Crow and Luke Hochevar both pitched for the independent Ft. Worth Cats before coming to the Royals.

I would rather watch I-League baseball that HS any day of the week. While, yes, a lot of them are washed up AAA-level players, the talent level, as a whole, just makes it more interesting.

"but I decided to just start drinking instead."

Hahaha!

Anyways, I like the Mets-Royals rumor. I don't mind those three players being traded at all. Gill Meche and Jose Guillen especially, who've been collecting injuries like bottle caps the last two years. I don't know much about the Mets players mentioned because I only watch Royals baseball.
