Meanwhile, the Twins traded away an elite SS for two middle relievers, one of whom is 27 and has already undergone shoulder surgery, the other of whom is 24 and has yet to pitch above high A.

Fear not, Royals fans, other teams in the Central make poor decisions too, which is why, despite Detroit, Chicago and now MN spending over $100 million on payroll, we can always be assured that the division is winnable. That and injuries and bad luck (sorry Cleveland in 2008).

Another marginal improvement from the current cast of CFs. Consider this:
bb%, so%,bb/so,avg, obp, slg, ops, woba
Melky career: 8.0, 13.0, .69, .267 , .328, .379,. 707,. 312
Royals last year: 9.1, 20.5, .50, .251 , .321, .373, .694, .311
Maier career: 9.5, 20.3, .53, .256, .330, .347, .678, .304

Maybe .5 win more for next year. Another boring signing, but marginal improvement over team before acquisition.
