One or the other would have been fine, but why both Francoeur (RH Power bat, I guess) and Cabrera (??)? And a platoon of Cabrera/Gordon doesn’t make a bit of sense. Can Cabrera still play CF? I guess that outfield isn’t horrible, but nothing special. I would rather have given Lough and/or Dyson their chances to make a splash. Hopefully one or both of Maier and Blanco are gone after these signings.

I think the continued signing of OFs speaks to a sense of distrust the organization has with its young, minor league OFs. Shouldn’t some of the younger guys get a chance this season? Jeff Francoeur and Melky Cabrera are obviously not long term solutions (and I swear to God if I see Melky Cabrera river-dancing in the dugout when he’s on the DL with a bum knee… [see Yankees, 2009]).

I didn’t understand drafting Adcock either. He projects as a number four starter or a middle of the bullpen type. His fastball has little to no movement on it. Don’t the Royals have plenty of pitchers that project as a number four in O’Sullivan, Davies, et al? there was really no need, and not really enough upside, for selecting him instead of the other players mentioned that went after he did.
