I'm going to give you guys some feedback on how this feels from a brewer point of view. First -- I'm quite offended by the number of Royals fans who turn around and bash the players you guys are getting. I know quite a few brewers fans are bashing Greinke -- and are bashing this as a horrible, horrible trade... if that doesn't show just how much these players mean to us -- and what I hope they will mean to you guys -- I don't know what will. Escobar is probably the player fans around here seem the least shaken up about losing, and he is a huge impact player. He was brought up too soon, so his offense has yet to develop, but he will almost certainly be an all star in the near future. Jeffress is a rock star that only lost his fan base here because of his drug problems. He will be a rock solid reliever or closer. Odorizzi is a HUGE loss for the brewers... although his biggest issues are with not being as fired up to play as he could be (and fuzzy focus due to this) he has four above average pitches, and he has NOT been pitching as long as most minor league pitchers -- he is still developing. This guy was probably going to be the brewer's first home grown real ace... you guys shouldn't underestimate him. As for Cain I really do feel we lost a lot. The Braves asked for Lorenzo Cain, and the Brewers asked for Mike Minor... if that doesn't say what the Brewers staff and fan base feel about Cain, nothing will. MANY Brewers fans believe Cain has the potential to be multiple time gold glover, or multiple time MVP. Please don't overlook what you guys got in this deal just because you don't know them -- I really hope they all develop to their full potential and you guys see just what we traded -- almost endless potential.

I pretty much never listen to sports radio, and I find it almost as difficult to read local sports reporters, at least here in MN. One thing I miss about KC is the sports reporting, it was always strong, and it got even better after I left and Joe Posnanski moved to town. In the Twin Cities we have one guy who has some person investment in bashing Joe Mauer, and another who supported Bartolo Colon's Cy Young candidacy over Johan Santana because, of course, wins are all that matters for pitchers. These are not abnormalities for the MN sports reporting scene. Although I do like Lavelle E. Neal, I should mention that.

Luckily, here, as in KC, there is a strong online community who provide good commentary (at least for the Twins -- I read nothing about other sports). Although, I have to say, just as KC has been blessed with good sports reporting in the mainstream media, there also seems to be an abnormally strong online presence. Sites like royals authority and rany on the royals are necessary tonic for us Royals fans living in the diaspora.

The one thing that I hate more than anything in the world of sports journalism are personal attacks. I have no qualms with saying that player x is not very good (relatively of course) at baseball, or pointing out their liabilities from a baseball perspective. I think it's even fine (if you have some actual knowledge) to say that a guy is bad for the clubhouse. However, when you say that someone you don't know (and no media person really knows these players) is a bad person, or that they have a character flaw then I think that's over the line. I will never do that and I find it ethically to be reprehensible.

I don't know Zack or any other Royal and odds are I will never know one intimately, not intimately enough to say they are a bad person. And even if I did, and believe to myself that a guy was a bad person, there really is no point in the coverage of sports where that is relevant in any manner.

Now again, I haven't heard any of this coverage, so maybe I am wrong. But in the past I have heard media members call other players in sports "bad people". It angers me to no end. It's not my place and I have no right to do it. When I heard the particular rant I'm speaking of, it was then I realized I needed to do a podcast, because intelligent fans deserve more than that.

end rant. Thanks for reading Royals Authority. I hope even when you disagree with our points or even our tone, that you respect where we come from. It's all I want from my readership.

abh, I've mostly avoided hearing the local talk on the radio, but I've heard that there are those in the media really trashing zack right now. That's a shame. The guy was a great pitcher and an interesting personality. I do wish Zack all the luck in the world and hope he performs spectacularly.

One of the reasons I do the podcast is to fill a need for balanced, thought-provoking talk about the Royals. We're passionate, but honest. We don't have an agenda and we don't try and whip people into a frenzy.

If some of the things I've been hearing are true, that people are suddenly saying bad things about Greinke, then either they are upset now and are overreacting or they have had these complaints for a long time and held onto them for some self-serving agenda. Either way, it's bad form. I won't do anything of that sort on the podcast, and if I do slip, I hope you call me out on it.

So, listening to sportstalk radio is generally reprehensible, but I do anyway. Wow, there are a lot of bitter, vindictive, provincial people out there, and many of them own/work for america's largest all sports radio station. I really hope Zack goes something like 24-5, 2.60, 225K's next year, regardless of how our new brew crew prospects perform.

It was in the first 30 minutes, and it was a vicious attack on my alma mater. Just horribly mean and, really, out of the blue. I was shocked.

Clark - Does this means you are a Husker? If so, welcome to the new Legends Divsion, a moniker that is certain to become classic folly, or, more mercifully, completely and forever forgotten. If we are lucky, we won't even have to suffer one season with these lame division names, as they can bring nothing but scorn.

I haven't had an opportunity to listen to the first segment with Larry, so I'll just assume that's the one with the pro-MU slant.

Otherwise, Nick has a lawsuit on his hands.

"Have to say though, as an Iowa alum, the pro-Mizzou slant hurt my heart."

we can all be friends under the banner of the Royals, right?

Thanks for listening, glad your daughter enjoyed the musical interludes as well. Glad to know the podcast is a family affair. I try to keep it clean and family freindly as much as I can.

I get what you're saying in that it's quantity and quality, but it's still degrees of that. I hope it turns out well for the team, we could use a break.
