Interesting - Francis made 16 straight starts thru 8-11, went on DL 8-14 with shoulder tendinitis for 32 days. Only made three more starts, lost 2 of them and didn't make it out of the 3rd inning in any of them. Hopefuilly this is not a cause for concern. Stat wise for the 2010 season; BB/9 – 2.0 (career best), SO/9 – 5.8 (career ave), SO/BB – 2.91 (career best), HR/9 - .9 (one tick off his career best and should be much better at The K), H/9- (career ave). I'm looking for good things. Hope he stays healthy.

For me, the Francis signing reminds me to hold the reigns when it comes to my expectations from the upcoming class of lefties we have stockpiled. In the minors, Francis projected as the 2nd coming of Tom Glavine with a better K rate....in the majors he's been nothing more than average at best

most interesting part of this post is that Hochevar has "added muscle" and what that says about this team.

aside from that the fact the OP is clueless on the effect of conditioning--would anybody that's been on the athletic field Q whether additional muscular strength improve performance--to answer his own Q would suggest Craig Brown start throwing baseballs, and then get in the weight room and two months later start throwing them again, to see the difference in velocity, control, etc. etc. one of the prime reasons our good managers always complain about "lack of command" is lack of muscular strength in our staffs. noodle arms, except Meche. the Royals have a history of poo paahing conditioning--they hilariously(or not) took Gubicza out of the weight room after his good seasons etc.

But, what this says about the Royals
1. Hochevar has been with the Royals how long. and, is just now discovering the weight room.
2. Royals still fail to see the connection between conditioning and performance. Hochevar "added muscle" to avoid injury.
3. My guess, Hochevar will now stop lifting, and, what are the odds that Yost and pitching coach will simply injure him again?

I think Moore has his sights on Chen, he's just waiting for him to come off his 2 year demand which he will the closer we get to spring training. Moore even ssaid last night that they're talking to Chen. No one else will give him 2 years and Moore knows that. Chen should take a one yr deal to prove last year was no fluke.

I like the Francis signing. He's a crafty pitcher with experience. Good GB rate and our new up the middle defense should help him. Good veteran presence. If he stays healthy I'd like to see him for another year to ease the transition and mentor the young lefties.

I've got no problem if they can bring Chen back on a deal similar to Francis's. People forget how young O'Sullivan (23) is, I wouldn't have a problem letting him continue to hone things at AAA. Teaford is three years older than O'Sullivan and Sean is only a year older than Duffy.

Signing Chen and breaking camp with Teaford would also allow us to rid ourselves of Dusty Hughes...win/win.

I'd pass on Young. Let the Mets have him. And I agree with Grant... There's really nobody else out there to sign. To bring someone else in would just be wasteful. Roll with the five you have and then tap Omaha or troll the waiver wire if you need someone during the season.
