A C+ prospect according to Sickels, which makes him the best centerfield prospect in the organization this side of Brett Eibner. I don’t necessarily think advocating Cain for playing time over Melky Cabrera means ‘everyone is high’ on him so much as he likely is simply a better alternative.

Why is everyone so high on Cain…he is a “C” prospect…he was the least important piece to the trade….

In regards to Melky…I have not doubt that it is true that if the Royals possessed Cain earlier he would not have been signed, but for less than 1.5 M…i still see a lot of value in him as a 4th outfielder (he can switch hit, and i do not believe he has hit his ceiling quite like Maier and Blanco have.) Regardless of what was promised, Melky does not deserve to start and that is what worried me most about Yost’s comments at FanFest. He seems beholden to the fact that Melky “deserves a shot”, without considering what is better for the future of this team. It seems trendy, but we might need to make “Team Cain” t shirts and start picketing.

In order to get an extra year from Cain, he’d have to stay down for quite some time to make up for the time he was in the majors last year. Well, I guess it wouldn’t be too long if they don’t mind him being a Super 2, but in order to avoid that, he’d have to stay down until something like late July.

john, I’m with you. He’s too talented to not be better than he is. I’m irrationally optimistic regarding gordon. It’s one of my many faults.

I’m obviously the just about the only one left, but I still have a reasonable amount of hope for Gordon. He’ll never be Brett, but I can see him becoming a kind of Adam dunn lite. Something like .260/.350/.450 with 25-30 hr if he plays every day. Plus, he can be a good baserunner and avg+ glove in lf. I think there’s still a decent chance he’s part of the solution.

I fully expect them to keep Moustakas in Ohama until June as well, for the same reason – to buy that extra year. They do have Betemit, who hit very well last year. It may be a one year abberation, but I think that’s what the Royals end up doing.

I think that can make some sense, but I really hate the insistence on gaining the extra year on EVERY player that comes through. For your stars, sure. Cain doesn’t project as an all-star and could still bust. If he shows he’s ready for us to start finding out then let’s get him in there.

Here’s an arbitration clock question: Does it make sense to start Cain’s clock at a different time than Moustakas, etc.? What I’m thinking is that it might give the Royals more financial flexibility if Cain, for example, is arbitration eligible in the winter of 2012, while Moustakas would not be so until the winter of 2013 and so on. It might allow the club to spread out the decision making and evaluation process.
