Yeah, I knew that parraz had been claimed by the yankees, but the claiming by the red sox ended his royals career, so that was the move that mattered. However the DFA by new york is new, and could bring him back to the Royals.

Actually, you are a little behind on the Parraz news. Boston claimed him off waivers from the Royals. Then the Yankees claimed him off waivers from Boston. Now the Yankees have released him when they signed Justin Maxwell.

I don’t think that Yuni helped the royals get ANY talent whatsoever. In fact there’s a distinct possiblity that he was a reason the royals couldn’t get MORE in return. I only put him and the rest there to show that the link to Brewer remains.

Upon another read, I can see where I am insinuating that the royals used betancourt to get value, but I don’t believe that to be the case. I should have been more clear.

I want to preface this by saying that I’m not trying to be a downer, I’m just curious about something. Yuniesky Betancourt was clearly not the major part of the trade with Brewers. Because Yuni was not traded straight up for anybody but was in fact a side note in the Zack Greinke trade, it would have been interesting to see an extrapolation of what value the Royals might have gotten from him alone (or at least how much of the talent the Royals received was actually due to Yuni’s part in the trade). That might be a better judge of the Billy Brewer trade tree. To say that Yuni was pivotal in the Royals receiving a large amount of talent through the Greinke trade would probably be a slight exaggeration although it might not be too far fetched to think that Yuni was the linchpin in the Royals receiving Escobar with the Brewers needing to replace him at shortstop.

I feel that the most value gained through a transaction in this tree was at the MacDougal branch, even though this was stunted due to a freak accident. However, the most value actually seen by the club was probably the time Offerman spent with the Royals. With all of the wheeling and dealing of players that we have seen in the past few seasons, it seems that it becomes more about how much you got for a player and less about what you got from that player while he was a part of the franchise. The GM must toe a fine line between getting the most out of a player during his time on the team and trading him for the most value possible. I just hope that Dayton Moore doesn’t get carried away with his little “commodities trading” project and is able to settle down some day and put together a winning major league roster.
