I see your point. Clearly when Gil went or when Redman went they didnt help the squad as they didn’t muster an appearance. It wasnt meant to be a knock on DeJesus but more the depth of his position in the league. I’ll definitely root for him in Oakland as well and wish he never had to leave.

But Dejesus was the best player on the team twice, he deserved that all star spot. Whether he was one of the top 2 corner OF (he did play CF too), doesn’t matter. Each team gets an All-Star and so I think Dejesus was snubbed at least twice.

I don’t think there will ever be an All Star game where David DeJesus would be selected to play in. Last year was his best first half and still, you can’t really complain with the guys that were on the team over him. He’s a corner outfielder incapable of hitting 20 home runs. That’s not an All Star unless you bat .350 plus and can steal bases. He was a good Royal on awful Royal teams. At the end of the day, he netted us Vin Mazarro. MLB Networks top 10 right now didnt have a Royal at any position on the field. Next year’s game in Kauffman will for sure only have the one token choice. (Soria always earns it, but you know what I mean). Billy is the same boat. He’s a really good player but at 1st base, there’s a good 5 at least in the American League that will get the nod not only because of their markets, their teams win, but the players produce more then he does.

I can see it both ways. Did DeJesus hurt his real and/or perceived value by not excelling in any skill? I think so. More so, his below average baserunning really gave him a bad reputation.

He’s the type of ironic player that would look best as the 3rd best outfielder on a good team. If he’s your best outfielder, than you have problems.

I totally agree with your take on DeJesus – always enjoyed the smiles amidst the losing.

Do you think he’s a Royals HOFer? I’m on the fence. Being a saber-nerd, I shouldn’t care about team success when judging an individual, but it does enter into it for me a bit when it comes to honors like the RHOF and number retirement.

I do wonder if it was easier for some to minimize his dependability because he was so appreciated by us ladies. And I certainly took a lot of ribbing from friends and co-workers about DeJesus being my favorite, but I always pointed out (and I’m sure no one believed me) that it was because he was actually a good player, and consistently good. That he was also pretty was just a bonus!
