I’m not so sure that one can really say that speed is a glaring weakness with a catching prospect Dan. Aside from Kendal and Russell Martin earlier in their careers, how many catchers are really that fast to begin with?

As long as he continues his solid hitting and defense and learns how to occassionally take a walk, Perez should be a solid catcher at the major league level. I’d expect him to be someone else that the Roayls may bring up in September 2012 as part of the next wave of prospects. Figure that he and Colon should arrive at roughly the same time.

If nothing else, this allows for a couple of years worth of evaulation on Lucas May and Brayan Pena. Besides, would you rather see Jason kendall out there, who can’t do anything?

It was in the BA prospect handbook where they graded him as a 25. That was the only number they gave him for any attribute.

If the best prospect at a position has a glaring weekness, shouldn’t Dayton look to upgrade the prospects at that position?
After several years of the process shipping one-for-several players, why can’t the process start doing the reverse, sending several-for-one.
When Dusty Hughes was claimed by Minnesota, that would indicate he and a couple lesser prospect could have been traded, say for a better catching prospect.

If our C of the future can hit a respectable .270/.300/.425 and play outstanding defense and built a good rapport with his pitching staff, I’m all for it.

When you mentioned that his speed is a 25 on the scouting scale, where did you find that reported? Obviously I know that Perez is not a fast guy I’ve never seen a specific scouting report on him and was wondering where you saw a write up of him on a 20-80 scale.
