No way Dayton breaks camp with that many rookies in the pen. Daytons still “going for it” in his mind, so I would temper the expectations of having rookies like Collins, Coleman, Crow, etc. Especially with the not-quite rookies but still inexperienced group of: Jeffries, Holland, or Wood.

Expect plenty of Mendoza and Texieraand those types, at least to start. Obviously Dayton is not comfortable with what’s there now or he wouldn’t be picking up scrubs like Fish on the waiver wire.

I would definitely expect Dayton to overpay for some 30+ reliever in order to provide “veteran leadership”. It’s just what the man does.

I don’t think Scott Boras would allow Eric Hosmer to sign anything resembling the Longoria contract.

I am more concerned about spreading the experience levels of prospects that matter (Duffy, Collins, etc), then experimenting with TWO Rule 5 guys in the same year.

Clark, I really hope that DM plans on giving Hosmer a Longoria esk contract right out of the shoot, so it won’t be as big of a deal. I am not as sold on Moustakas just yet, but I think he is going to be something. There would be no difference in any of their clocks if Moustakas is brought up in May/June, Duffy/Montgomery brought up in July/August, and Hosmer a September call up.

If DM wants “Process 2012″ to actually work, he needs to get as many of them up in 2011 as possible. They will have growing pains, and they might as well take their lumps in 2011 rather than 2012. Right?

Fish and Adcock are also rookies. Keeping them has the same contractual implications as Duffy. However, we don’t lose Duffy if he’s not on the 25 man roster. No hurry in bringing up Duffy for a bullpen role, especially since he will likely be a starter.

Clark-What is the rationale of acquiring Fish in particular if you have to give something up to keep him? We seem to be deep in bp lefties. When Royals acquired Adcock he was depth (and not a lefty), at a time when there were more questions. The timing of signing a rule 5 Fish does not seem to make much sense.

So, should we wait until June and bring up a slew of rookies all at once? Have them all at the same level of experience and have them all reach arbitration and free agency all at once? I would much rather get some of our hoped for prospects started now, a few more in June, and another batch in September.

Bullpen arms are different than top prospects. You have to take advantage of them while the fire is hot. If Collins, Coleman, and Jeffress are the best bullpen arms out of camp, then you have to use them. I do understand the point of leaving Moustakas, Hosmer, Duffy, Montgomery in AAA until arbitration/Super 2 is past.

I don’t know enough about Fish or Adcock to say whether they should be on the opening day roster, but they might be that good.

I can see Adcock and Fish lasting on the 25man this summer. It’s a lost season. Why throw away before seeing what they have? Like the others, might as well wait until June to bring up ANY rookies, like Duffy et. al.

It’s about time we show some love for Holland. Of all the hype around this organization’s prospects, I have always felt like Holland would be the sleeper in this group. I think this kid will contribute this season.
