Nick – Just last week when we were talking about starting P. I thought you said the Royals were done with Crow as a starter, that he proved in the minors that he coulldnt be a starter, doesn’t have a 3rd pitch, and that if the Royals believed that he ever would start; that they would have him in the minors working on it?
I just feel that regardless of the record now, this will be a throw away season. Next year or 2 is when we are suppose to be for real. If you want to see if Crow can become a big league starter. Isn’t this year the best time to figure that out rather than when you are expected to compete and the games really matter.

I hope Kila gets it right, but does it really matter anyway? Is he really part of the future? He’s not going to block Hosmer with the way he’s hitting and his D at first is not a big enough plus to push Hosmer to the OF.

Well, the point in Kila being a 27 year old quasi-rookie is that he should’ve had his shot a couple of years ago, and then the organization would already know what they have in him, and they could have thrown in Robinson this year or whatever they wanted until Hosmer is ready.

It’s just the recent history sort of depresses you — Pickering didn’t get enough of a shot whatsoever, then Harvey fooled everyone for a season (really, half a season) and ended up being a waste of time, then Kila’s delay to really debut with the big club…they just can’t find the 1B/DH match for Billy’s DH/1B spot. Here’s to hoping Kila gets right.

Kila is an absolute black hole in the lineup right now. A 283 OBP from your #5 hitter is just pathetic. With that being said, it is time to let him sink or swim at this point. Give him another month to see if he can get out of what is now a career long funk at the MLB level. Now, if mid-May comes and he’s barely improved, then is the time to move him out for good and give all of his ABs to Betemit/Aviles. A 27 year old quasi rookie doesn’t exactly scream for a full seasons worth of wasted ABs.

I could use an Adcock sighting here and there. If we’re going to be playing lots of close games and lots of extra inning games then we need to use the whole bullpen. Minor gripe though as it’s early. No real worries about anyone yet, but I’m almost there on Soria.

Tim Collins: “he might be overworked…”

how absurd is it, given recent royals history, that a young fellow 5′ 7″ high, is overworked in the first 2 weeks of his major league career.

Or, might note, how mindnumgingly dumb is it that any pitcher is over worked two weeks out of spring training. and that’s both in terms of performance and injury prevention. is what we get with the Ned Yost/Bob McClure?GMDMs of the world.

A couple of notes: First, you leave Kila up here. Move him down to 7th, that’s fine, but really, this guy has nothing left to prove in AAA. There is nothing more to tweek. He has had less than 200 AB, let him work through it. There is no reason not to give him a fair shot up here. Besides, who thought we would be in this position when the season began? We are playing with house money here. There is still plenty of time to bring up Hosmer or Robinson if we have to. Secondly, and I haven’t been able to verify this, but it does seem like Collins is getting pinched up there. Umps aren’t giving him anything at the bottom of the zone which causes him to elevate his pitches and get hammered. Is it because he is short and the angle is low? Is it because they are rookies and haven’t “earned” the borderline calls? Last, I really like Yost. But I wish he would have gotten thrown out by now. I want him to argue balls and strikes and get calls for his players. You think spending 14 years with Bobby Cox that some of this would have worn off.

I would disagree on Davies…sure, he had a good start last night. But this is what he does. He’ll have a good start, then the next 2-3 are very lackluster. His pitch count was still high. I agree, right now they don’t really have anyone else. But come June-July-August, if a Montgomery, or Lamb, or Duffy is pitching good, i say give them a chance. Kyle Davies is what he is. I hope no one is fooled because of one good outing.
