I have to think the Royals plan to go for it in 2012. There will be a lot of focus on KC mid-season hosting the All Star Game and I have to think both Glass and Moore would like to have a team in contention when the national baseball media descends upon the city.

If he could hit 25 doubles a year and walk 25 more times a year I think he would have value. That seems to be a stretch to me. Having said that, I think Yost has realized Getz can’t hit and is letting Aviles get a majority of the time. Unfortunately, he seems to be slumping badly too. Giovatella is hitting fairly well but he isn’t forcing the Royals hand at all.

Here is to hoping Melky gets moved sometime in July. I have to admit I have no idea what to do with Betemit. He is hitting too well to just give away, but I don’t know that he has a ton of trade value. Tampa Bay has a gaping hole at 1st, maybe we can get a B+ or B- prospect for him.

Chris Getz is not a major league player. He is Willie Bloomquist without the positional flexibility. Which. btw, is the only thing bloomquist brings to the table. Time to dump Getz and either give Giovatella his shot or see if Irving Falu can be a utility guy for us.

I do not like the idea of drafting Bubba Starling. He has huge upside but he is more of an athlete than a skilled baseball player at this point.

Dayton’s task at this point should be how to take the players on the major league roster that aren’t considered part of the process (Wilson,Melky,etc), as well as the triple AAA players with value but are blocked (Clint,Derrick,etc) and flipping those for a second wave of players to hit in 3-4 years when major league salaries skyrocket.
A good start on this second wave would be drafting high school guys this year like Bubba who would take 2-4 years to develop.

Zack – I have heard that Salvador Perez might be ready sooner than we think, possibly early in 2012. Good catchers don’t get traded and free agent catchers are usually free agents for a reason, so we may have to grit our teeth and hope Perez continues to improve/impress. Probably the key thing to watch would be if he gets a July/August call up to Omaha.

When it comes to Melky, I understand why the casual fan likes him. Frankly, every time I look at his stats, I am surprised they aren’t better. Cain is a better option, particularly in the field, but I’m not sure that’s how the organization sees it.

Kyle – Betemit has played 4 games in the outfield in his entire major league career and none in the minors. I was surprised that number was so low.
