Are you saying a pair of 23 year old pitchers can’t figure things out? Adcock probably goes back to AA or AAA to work back into the rotation. Jeffress has been trying to work back in the rotation most of the season, but I think he ends up back in the pen. Any pitcher with a near 100mph fastball will be given several opportunities.

1)Jeffress & Adcock shouldn’t be on this list….they might not ever see the majors again.
2) Wood is not a Rookie….he was on the MLB team for longer than 45 days last yr.

Rookie status is 130PA, 50inn or 45 days on the active roster

Farnsworth is the comp I made after about two weeks, calling Jeffress “Farnsworth v2.0″, but don’t think Davies is that good a comp. They have similar Fips, similar K/9, but Jeffress walks about twice the hitters Davies did. Tim Collins may be the best comp, after looking at fangraphs:

I do see Collins, like Holland this year, starting the season in Omaha to show that he can throw strikes. Ned Yost made that comparison a week or two back.

Better comparison for Jeffries is Kyle Davies, Brad Penny, Kyle Farnsworth…I don’t think they are head cases like Ankiel, just proof positive that stuff don’t mean squat if you can’t control it.
Meaning no disrespect or ill-temperament, just astonishment: how do you following this team (and more specifically a blog about the team) and not know the bullpen was all or mostly rookies? The blog part is probably the most curious given this site mentioned them a dozen times or more.
I suppose their relative success could have belied their experience enough to not notice. I probably won’t know much about the Chiefs by the end of this LONG, LONG year. Ok, that’s a lie. I’m obviously a sucker for really crappy, heart-breaking, spoon in your eye teams.

Good effort. In the bullpen I don’t see Jeffress. I think we have seen why Milwaukee threw him in on the trade, he’s a Rick Ankiel-like head case who can’t hit the zone. I think Collins starts next year at AAA and Crow may also, to transition him to starter. Herrera and Chapman likely make the ‘pen, Adcock starts at AA as a starter. Right now I like Holland as fireman, Soria as closer, Herrera and Chapman as 6-7-8th inning relievers, Collins if he can throw strikes as lefty and/or Teaford if the rotation experiment is slow to take off, and maybe Wood. I don’t think we have as many bodies in the ‘pen next year, not needing to protect Adcock.

There will be some turnover, but for the most part I agree. Some of these guys will and should get chances in the rotation, but I’m not sure any of them are any better than the rotation from this year. And that’s a bad thing. Crow is a two pitch pony, so I don’t see him lasting as starter. Holland has pitches, but has been a starter for a VERy long time. Teaford will probably be given the longest look, b/c he has been a starter for most of his career. Adcock should be moved down to AA to get worked back into the rotation.

A bullpen of Soria, Coleman, Holland, Herrera, Chapman, and two of Collins, Crow, Jeffress, and Wood, would be a good start. There will still be other pitchers given a chance, and some of these guys will flame out. Rotation might well end up being Duffy, Hoch, Paulino, Crow, Teaford, and the team will still only win 70 or so games.

Hardly, Daniel. Like so many relievers, Kyle Farnsworth’s ERA is suppressed by the number of inherited runners he allows to score. While it doesn’t affect his individual ERA, it does show up on the team/bullpen ERA.

Although I will grant that there were other, worse wastes of space in the 2010 Royals bullpen. But I have seen Kyle blow too many games – both as a Royal and before he became a Royal (which made me yell, “WTF” when I heard the Royals paid $9M for two years of his services) to not single him out when the subject is bad bullpen performance.

I’m with you, Nick. I don’t think that I appreciated that the bullpen was comprised of all rookies, minus Soria. It certainly appears that Teaford may be headed for starter duty. I can’t imagine Adcock not in the minors next year working as a starter since he’ll have cleared Rule 5 conditions.

I gotta pimp GMDM. Well done.
