I will feel tons better about Yost as a manager if he keeps Yuni to the role he should be…playing about once a week, filling in to give a day off for Esco, Moose, and Gio, then sticking Yuni in the #9 hole and let him hack away to ensure he gets as few plate appearances as possible.

Very nice article, though, and it did seem like Moose was popping up a bunch early on…nice to see it quantified!

Clark, I am enjoying your pieces on each guy on 40-man roster. Please keep it up. I hope you and other posters also react to Rany’s piece on Grantland about how value of prospects has changed. If you buy into Rany’s premise, then an injury to someone like Moose is not to be feared. Our wealth of prospects would allow us to fill that void rather easily.

Maier bats left, throws right. He played third base for at least the first year of his professional career (was a catcher in college) and played it poorly despite throwing right handed.

Zack, I think Gio starts the year batting 2nd with Cain at 7. Given Yost’s fondness for L/R alternation, wouldn’t be surprised to see the faster Hosmer 3rd with Billy 4th and Moose 5th, then Frenchy 6th. Nice to have some choices.

With so many prospects getting to the bigs last year, there aren’t many guys in the minors ready to replace somebody on the infield if there is an injury. If Moose goes down for an extended period – we got nobody to replace him. Yuni is fine for a couple of games at 3B, but not a month or two. At the end of last year, they had Mitch and Bryan taking ground balls at third – but Yost wasn’t happy with their ability there. Sounds like the Royals are gambling a bit with no good backup for Moose.
