Royalman – I really enjoyed his appearance on your show.

Ryan – Agree. He may be the 40th (or 39th) man on the roster, but he’s the #1 Twitter follow. It’s not even close.

Airgoesit – A draft would have been much more interesting. I’ll keep how we arrived at the order a state secret for the time being. Let everyone guess. It will help you get through the next month and a half.

Ted – Thanks. We did something similar a couple years ago, but stopped doing the reviews when we produced the Annuals. Since we’re not doing that anymore, this felt like the best way to generate winter content.

Thanks for these 40-man reviews. With new content coming frequently they offer a nice break from the Prince Fielder drudgery (and all the other boring rumors and reports and speculations). February can not get here quickly enough.

I agree % overstates it, but I personally would be thrilled if Cain produces near what Melky gave us.

More proof if it was needed that the Melk-Man doesnt get the appreciation he deserves from the Missouri natives,without doubt Melky was our most effective & consistent offensive threat last year,IMO he more than payed back in 2011 what was spent on him & what we got in the trade was just a big bonus!

I would say our offensive production could go down by as much as 20% without him in the two slot behind Gordon & could be the difference as to whether we compete in 2012 or not!

I Was listening to an old Joni Mitchell track earlier on today & it could be quite apt,i think there was a line “you dont miss it till its gone,paved paradise,pick up a parking lot”….

His spot on the 40-man roster seemed to be related to possibly losing him in Rule 5 draft right after the trade (???). That would put him in an odd spot – easy to call up, but maybe not as prized as some other AAA pitchers like Monty and Jake. It is almost like last year carrying Adcock on the 25 man roster – so Verdugo has to be on the 40 man while trying to earn his spot.

Barring injuries, I predict the Royals will trade several pitchers before the trading deadline – including SOS and one front line pitcher – to make room for Monty. As trades go, a guy like Verdugo could easily be a toss-in (as he was coming to KC).

I’m dying to know how you guys divvied up the players. Was it like a draft? “First pick in the 40 man roster review draft is….Eric Hosmer!” Did you draw names out of hat? Or did someone pull “tenure” and just assign responsibilities?
Since I only look up stats when I’m trying to quantify my arguments…is there a way to document minor league splits for specific pitcher/batter match ups? I think it would be a great article to analyze something like how our 5 top pitching prospects fared against top 10-20 position prospects and/or players that made it to the show. And vice versa.
Knowing how our boys stack up against real talent, assuming they bear down a little more and tinker less against those guys on the pitching side at least, would seem to be a good piece of scouting data versus season-long stats. Call it “Money Ball 2.0″
