My optimism:

Escobar hits .280+ (Seitzer gonna make it happen!)
Getz/Yuni combined ave is on the good side of .250

Based on the above, and Cain continuing what he started in Surprise, AZ, the Royals have a beast of an offense, it offsets our weak rotation, and we win a lot of 7-5,8-6,9-7 ball games this year!

Hochevar finally lives up to his potential as a #1 starter, and is in the top 5 in the AL for all the right stats.

Gordon continues to rip and field, as he did in 2011.

Butler starts hitting for power, and has 25 HR's to match 45 Doubles.

Moose loses the label "Prospect", has a 2012 season that matches Sep. of 2011, and signs a long term contract to join the rest of the young studs, the day after the last game of the 2012 season.

And finally, the Royals go much farther than our expectations of a .500 season!!!

Yeah, I'm an optimist, but WTH?

And for my optimism...

Moose will hit way, way better this season. It was so obvious last year when he finally settled down and got comfortable. His body language in the batter's box was so obvious, and it corresponded with some really good results. He's started slow almost everywhere, and then hit his stride and started mashing... at pretty much every level. No reason to think it won't happen in KC.

Hosmer is as close to a sure thing as you can possibly get in a young offensive position player. The kid has absolute ice-water running through his veins. You can see it every time he plays. I had the lucky chance to run into none other than David Glass last year, a few days after Hosmer was called up. I asked him what he thought of Hosmer, and that's the first thing he mentioned... absolutely nothing rattles the kid. He plays like he knows he belongs in the majors. His mental game is an A+ and his physical skills are a solid A... he's even a plus defender.

Mendoza... very exciting. You had to wonder when an unexpected/unheralded starter might surface out of our deep farm system... it looks like there's a chance he could be that guy.

Relief pitching... a lot has been said already, but you can't help but grin when you see how deep our system is. When guys like Coleman and Collins and Herrera and Dwyer struggle to crack the 25-man, that's good stuff.

ALEX GORDON. For the first time in my entire life, my favorite baseball player plays for my favorite baseball team. Now for at least 4 more seasons!

Billy Ray Butler. A 25 year old veteran with tremendous bat speed, discipline, and gap power. I think he has as much ceiling as Hos, but obviously more seasoning. .300/30/100 with 40 doubles is in his wheelhouse. Country Breakfast.

Love the positivity!!! Hoping for a servicable walk-rate for Mr. Timmy Collins hope he shines this year and becomes a shutdown lefty for our bullpen and trade Mijares! Bullpen in general going to go down as the greatest bullpen of all time (and the most used) and Hosmer and Gordon battling for league MVP!

I am excited for Brayan Pena to come up with two men on at the Ballpark down here in Arlington.

I am excited for Eric Hosmer to exist in any capacity

It couldn't have gone much worse (knock on wood) for our starting pitching prospects last year, so I'm excited for giant leaps forward by someone or a couple of guys who can make a splash in our rotation this year.

I'm excited to hear Bubba Starling/Paul Bunyan stories come out of Idaho Falls

I think its perfectly conceivable that Hosmer/Butler combine for 210+ RBI (shut up about it not being an important stat, I'm just saying how strong the top of our lineup will be)

I hate to be THAT guy, but I prefer the Getz/Yuni platoon to Gio playing everyday.

Yuni is going to have no less than 5 incredibly clutch, game-changing hits this season.

Luis Mendoza can only be smoke and mirrors for so long, and it sure seems like he's creeping into the realm of legitimacy
