I read your article and had some of the same feelings the other night when he pinch hit Bourg for Maier. I mean, WHY do that then? Maier was 1 for 2 with a walk at that point so why pull him? It’s like Yost is micromanaging the game and trying to control too many things.

Axl: Here is a reason I care about Hudler’s inanity: today my daughter asked if she could have an orange and I replied, “sure, go ahead.” This is something I say with a bit of regularity, but today it made me cringe because I felt that I was somehow mimicking Rex Hudler. This is an inexcusable intrusion into my head space and it must stop!

When a young team is slumping and the manager over manages, the subliminal message to the players is “coach thinks we suck and that trickery is the only way we can win”. Players then try to hard to prove they can do it, and lose focus on the approaches that have led them to success previously. The only way out of a slump is to preach consistency. Yost’s managing approach right now is anti-consistency. He’s not adept at managing young egos and he’s making a mess of the whole thing. I would have canned him after the Cleveland series.

Yost needs a 30 min refresher on how to read the stat sheet.

In general i think you’re crazy for shifting against good hitters like fielder and Cabreara, they can hit it either way if they feel like it. I guess I may be the minority there, at the very least i’d want to see their stats vs. a shift and vs. a normal D before I called for it.

But here’s the thing, can we all agree that Getz gives the royals a better chance to win than yuni?

I see fans on both sides and it surprises me, don’t get me wrong they’re both bad options with no upside. (Thus the Gio crowd because at least there is a chance at an upside if he gets rolling)

But if Gio is off the table, as it seems he is, can’t we say that Getz is pretty easily the better option at 2b?

From fan graph career stats:

UNIGMA: wOBA .294 / OPS .684 / UZR/150 -8.1
GETZ: wOBA .291 / OPS .624 / UZR/150 18

I mean almost identical bats, but Getz is faster, and plays better Defense. Gets has a slight bias towards RP but it’s minor where uni has no real split.

The team is 3-9. Who cares about Hudler or Yost. About 20 of the 25 man roster is under performing at the moment. When you surround all the young guys w/o proven veterans (Francouer is not and he can slump like no one else in this business), there will be times like this. The worst part of it happening at the start is that history with this team shows it can go in about 5 more ruts before the season ends. You want to play Fielder to pull? How about Mirajes hits his spot inside instead of the outer half. Nothing Yost can do about that. A DFA’d inner division pitcher pitched in a close game for us and we lost. It’s not that surprising.

I’m surprised that have gotten used to Rex Hudler already – considering that I was a big Frank White fan. From a style point of view – Ryan had to coax comments out of Frank which wasn’t great television. But Frank’s comment were always thoughtful and informative – not something you’ll ever be able to say about Rex. I think Rex would be more tolerable to Royals fans if he only did half the games, which they did some in the past with Splitt and Monty doing a few series while Frank took some vacation time.

Yes Ted it was mostly in jest but I can appreciate how some of these folks must feel when they are constantly barraged with “Hey Rex!” Sign my ball, glove, scorecard” or whatever or cannot go to a public place without being accosted by another fan wanting their time. A celebrity is entitled to a little courtesy too and sometimes people really don’t realize how it sounds.
