DanL - Dayton Moore and the Royals already implemented all of your suggestions. So I'm not sure what you have to complain about...

Not finding a way, or feeling the urgency, to speed up the results is the failure.
-maybe drafting more college pitchers early on would have worked:
Hochevar was a college pitcher drafted in 2006
-maybe trading a bunch of talented, but effectively blocked players for a AAA pitcher
Melky Cabrera wasn't blocked, but Cain was. Royals traded Cabrera for a AAAA pitcher (Sanchez)
-maybe hiring scouts that have a history of successfully evaluating pitchers:
In 2008, Mike Arbuckle, the man responsible for drafting Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels and other players who helped form the nucleus of the Philadelphia Phillies' 2008 world championship club, was hired as senior adviser to general manager Dayton Moore
-maybe upgrading the pitching coaches in the minors:
Rick Knapp was hired in September of 2011. If you don't know him, he made his resume as the minor league pitching coordinator for the Twins, reinforcing the philosophies of Minnesota pitching coach Rick Anderson and management, before the Tigers hired him as their pitching coach after the 2008 season.

The Royals have made over $64 million in profit the last 5 years. This of course does not include any money paid to Glass as CEO, Dan Glass as president, or the 3 other members of the Glass family on the board of directors, (Only Ewing's daughter is not a family member) which would be counted as an expense, not profit. That being said, you could take the total for the 5 of them per year, double it (taking it from expense to profit) and multiply it by the 5 years and add that on to the $64 million to get the total profit.

Glass had the Royals at their lowest payroll in 10 years last year, and publicly set a limit on payroll this year which virtually guaranteed we would not be able to pick up a quality starter in the free agent market, despite the entire world knowing we needed at least one, and having a bump in revenue this year due to increased season ticket sales. (A combination of the all star game and some excitement over last years young guys) We were left with resigning our own players and maintaining the status quo. But you keep drinking the Glass Kool Aid, Nick.

I would not be so sure that this year's attendance will beat last year's though, despite the season ticket bump. For one thing, last year's attendance was very back loaded, as a lot of single game tickets were sold fro the buzz from prospect arrivals. This year, it may well be front loaded, as many casual fans have already put the Royals out of their mind after the losing streak. (and Casual fans drive the single game ticket sales) Last year's weekday series against the Yankees got only 200 less per game than this year's weekend series. The other thing is secondary ticket sales (Stub hub and the like) have more availability this year due to many of the season tickets being bought with getting all star tickets as the reason behind getting those tickets. They will get cheaper (and already are) as the season goes along, and many more fans will find their single game seats there, which adds nothing to the paid attendance, just different people sitting in seats that were already sold.

I have a few questions to all the haters out there that are bashing the owner and GM for not signing or upgrading the rotation this past offseason: How many games have you been to this year? How much have you spent at the stadium? Do you have any Royals gear in your closet? It seems that there are a lot of people that complain about the Royals' struggles and these same people don't spend a dime out at the stadium to support the team. Here's some advice; if you aren't contributing something to make the team better maybe you should just shut your mouth! You are probably the same guys that sit on your butt while your wife is preparing your dinner and then have the nerve to criticize the cooking.

What is Glass doing? I would say that he is paying for a team right now that has a lot of promise and providing us with some affordable entertainment. One of the games that my girlfriend and I went to this year we spent $30 on tickets and $10 to park. For that $40 we got to watch a major league baseball game, got two jerseys, got a free buffet from Harrah's (on the back of the parking pass), and a free taco. That seems like a pretty good deal to me. Go check out how much Yankees or Red Sox tickets are. You would spend twice as much to go see their games.

Everyone is bashing the starting pitching and rightfully so, but overall we have a very promising team. We have some guys who should produce for years to come that are under team control (Gordon, Moustakas, Escobar, Hosmer, Butler, Perez, Duffy, and a lot of bullpen arms). We need some starting pitching, and probably another outfielder to take over for Frenchy. Hopefully Myers will be that guy and hopefully we get a little bit of help from the minors for our starting rotation. Other than that, stop complaining about Glass and go out the K and watch some games this summer. Glass has shown that if he gets the revenue, he will invest it in the team. Lets help fund our offseason signing of a true #1 starter for our rotation.
