I want to commend Gil Meche for his upstanding decision to retire this season. Looking back at the MLB player strike of ’96 it’s clear that greed is still pervasive in the sport. Which makes it the entertainment business and not about athletics and champion spirit. I still think they should have fired the whole lot of the MLB players in 96 and brought up the AAA league teams who play for the love and spirit of the American pastime. Gil Meche has rekindled the smoldering flame of honor that once made kids proud to collect their heroes playing cards. You’re a champion Mr. Meche. You embody America’s core values.

One small correction needs to be made to the above chart… Gregor Blanco and Jesse Chavez were traded for Ankiel and Farnsworth, not Podsednik.

Great site and very cool idea to trace everyone’s roots on the roster. And the bar chart for players by acquisition type is good too. I’m a Mets fan and it’s interesting to see that Chris Getz was derived at the second level from Carlos Beltran. The Royals should have gotten more for him.
