On Saturday afternoon the Kansas City chapter of SABR will hold their annual meeting at the Trailside Center at 99th and Holmes in South KC.  The event runs from 1 to 4 and is open to anyone and free to attend.

This year there will be a couple of panels.  The first one features Todd Peterson and Phil Dixon who are experts in Negro League history. Peterson will speak about his research presented in the book, Early Black Baseball in Minnesota: The St. Paul Gophers, Minneapolis Keystones and Other Barnstorming Teams of the Deadball Era. Dixon’s latest book is Andrew ‘‘Rube’’ Foster, A Harvest on Freedom’s Fields.

I’m excited to report that I (along with Nick) will be sitting on a second panel, where we will discuss blogging and the Royals.  Also on the panel will be Aaron Stilley from I70 Baseball and the big fish… Jeff Passan from Yahoo! Sports.  I’m fairly certain there will be some talk about Passan’s excellent article on Voros McCracken.  It promises to be a cool panel… Even though I’m going to be there.

So, if you had plans for Saturday afternoon, cancel them and stop by the Trailside Center to hang with Nick and me and some other people who love to chat about baseball.  Last weekend, we had the FanFest… This weekend we have SABR.  Pitchers and catchers are just around the corner.
