Bob - The Farnsworth comment was mostly tongue in cheek, but frankly I'd prefer him over Mendoza, Hughes or Colon at the moment.

rb - I cannot believe that any hitter would bunt with two strikes without being told to by the coach or manager. Especially DeJesus, who seldom bunts to begin with. Yes, DeJesus should be able to get a bunt down on the first two strikes, but the logic of having him not swing away escapes me (unless Trey really does believe Podsednik is going to hit .450 all year). Given David's production over the last five years at the top of the order, I'm skeptical that he 'needs to know how to bunt' at this point.

As for Callaspo, his one good year came in the only season in the majors he was given regular playing time. I would not say I am all that 'high' on Callaspo, but I do believe the guy can hit .300 in his sleep. Now, he can't field worth a lick and I am not convinced the power he displayed last year will hold, but the guy can put the ball in play.

Nicely done on this blog. I do take slight issue with the statement regarding Farnsworth. Yes, he hasn't walked anyone. He's also a powderkeg ready to explode for a few runs every time he takes the mound. For all of the talk about getting rid of Cruz (and I'm for that), Farnie needs to go first.

why is this blogger so high on callaspo....he had ONE good year, and i know its early, but why are we still panning dm for his off-season signings, they are all doing well so far...who knows if hillman told djj to bunt with 2 strikes or if the so called coach at 3rd told him to or if he did it on his own , if he is going to hit in the top of this order, he needs to know how to bunt, should have got it down on the first or 2nd attempt..... i think my count is to 4 or 5 bad calls by owen, and got lucky on one when the catcher couldn't hold on..

Hillman isn't much and lord knows he could do better but John McGraw in his prime couldn't get this rag tag collection of players to win 70 games. My cat could have put together a better collection of players than GMDM has done.

We are carrying EIGHT!!! relief pitchers. Why?? Because six of them suck. We need eight guys whose work load is to get 8 to 12 outs a night. And to make it worse the two guys who have pitched the least (as measured by batters faced) are the only two worth a darn (Soria and Parrish). Why Colon, Mendoza and Hughes are still on the roster is beyond belief. Heck, Mendoza had failed at every level above A ball and our front office acts like he's the second coming of Goose Gossage. Boys there's a reason this guy has been cut by every team he has ever been with.

a .500 season is currently in our grasp! This is true!

For how long... that remains to be seen. However, if the bullpen gets turned around and the hitting drops off a little less than we expect and the starting pitching remains lights out, then maybe we can stay around .500.

But that's a lot to expect.

i find your comments interesting and factual. which brings the question, why cant the coaching staff see these things? a 500 season is in our grasp, a victory within itself. and if hillman would get off his keister and rattle the cage, we have enough to stay mid pack in the al central. keep up the good work sir.
