I hate to disagree gbewing, but by PH Guillen for Kila Trey actually made 3 positions worse defensively - 1B, RF, and Pods for Maier in CF made CF worse.

One thing about Kila's splits - the BA and OBP is pretty consistent regardless of LHP or RHP, though Kila has more power vs RHP.

a total cluster**** of Hillmanesque proportions tonight
screws up the lineup by DH Butler and Kila at 1b only for the fact he was planning to phit for Kila vs a LH (I disagreed) and would then have no 1b-
so he puts Maier at 1b Guillen in Rf getting worse in 2 positions
Instead of genuflexing with a big ty to God for Meche's lucky outing with only 2 runs 7 innings he lets Meche go 130 or so and fatefully Guillen can't reach the winner in right
Sabr comes out to argue out of frustration-fear perhaps for the upcoming press conference and then forgets to take him out again
any wagers on Meche next start after this effort-take the over

Eric - I get your point... Although when it comes to the bullpen, I tend to ignore stats... Small sample sizes and all. Besides, these pitchers run so hot and cold which is impossible to predict, I prefer to go with the known quantity at that moment. Like SullivanRoyal said.

Jason - slider bat speed, my ass. This team comes up with bizarre justifications. Like % said, to turn on a fastball like that on an 0-2 pitch was pretty awesome.

% - Wee Willie did indeed score the first run. A small tip of the cap to him. Small. :)

At the risk of being shot down,Craig dont forget the whole fightback started with a lead off walk to my fav player (whom i concede is in a slump)Wee Willie Bloomquist!

Hillmans old nemisis returns, when a guy is on a roll he's on a roll...

Have to say Kila looked mighty composed & determined to do a job,to which he did with aplomb even with the odds against him at 0-2!

I love how Soria challenged Hamilton with a 3-2 fastball. Some managers might have even issued the free pass to Hamilton in that situation. It didn't work out for Soria, but at least somebody on the staff has the cajones to throw strikes.

HOW ABOUT Kila's sweet swing on an inside fastball. I thought Ka'aihue was labeled "slider bat speed?" He looked pretty quick on that 0-2 FB.

Also, I think you've got to tip your cap to Vlad for muscling that first HR off of Soria. That ball was so far inside, and low that he shouldn't have been swinging, let alone ganking that out of the park. That was a throwaway pitch Soria put out there to see if he bit.

For maybe the first time this year, I thought Trey managed the game pretty well. He actually ph Kila for Bloomy and then properly pr with DeJesus. I missed the first part of the game so I don't know about the first couple pitching changes (I started watching with Chen on the mound.), but overall even those changes were smart moves.

But man I tell you what, though it was pretty fun to watch, I would hate playing half the games in that stadium. The ball was just rocketing out of that place.

Yeah, Tejeda was on a roll, but this is a guy that has allowed an OPS over 1.000 against lefties this year, plus you have 2 outs in the 8th and your all-star closer is well-rested and ready to go. Really, as I watched the game, Trey actually managed with his head and not his gut in that situation. Couple that with the fact that he actually pinch hit with Kila for Bloomquist the inning before (a mild miracle considering who we're dealing with), and I think Trey seemed to make the right moves... Unfortunately, it just didn't work out. I hate that Trey gets second-guessed for playing the percentages by the stat-guy who was going with his gut b/c Tejeda looked good on the mound. I suggest we crucify Trey on the multitude of moves that deserve it, not the ones that just didn't work out.

fb- I don't think Trey mentioned it, but I will certainly accept that argument.

12 hours later and I'm still buzzing from that game...
