Kyle – That’s my point… Bullington and Humber won’t be better than Bannister and Davies, but they can’t be much worse. And at the savings… Why not?

Mr Dave – The list of free agent pitchers for next winter is underwhelming. It will have to be a starter off the scrap heap. And there’s no way the Royals can expect Meche to be back in the rotation. Dayton has a lot of work ahead of him to get this rotation to below average. Right now, it looks like it will be the worst or second worst in the AL – even with Greinke.

Kila either will prove he can play or not by the end of this season. I believe he is starting to show what major league scouts said before…”He can’t hit major league pitching”, he is pretty good at AAA though. It is odd that he was a better hitter at AAA than Gordon but Gordon (although he has played in the bigs a few years) is definitely superior (so far) while back in the majors. I am on Kila’s side, I want him to be a success, the Royals need it so badly. If Kila can’t do it, Hosmer is closing quickly on him so it won’t be long until we have someone else to try. And personally I don’t think Billy will ever hit a ton of HRs, he wants to hit line drives and those hits will be doubles, etc. He might hit 15 HRs in the bigs but that will be a push for him. One thing for sure, he will never get an inside the park home run with his blinding speed.

The Royals *need* to sign a veteran pitcher for a couple years in the offseason. First, the vet can, hopefully, stabilize the rotation next season and give them something behind Greinke. Secondly, having a veteran presence in the rotation will be helpful for the young pitchers coming up. This will give them someone that they can emulate how to go about being a major leaguer, how to get people out, and how to overcome adversity. Between the correct veteran and a hopefully commited Greinke, it can help to ease the transitition for all the young arms coming up.

A rotation next season of Greinke, free agent veteran, Hochevar, Meche, and Chen isn’t half bad. Maybe one of the young arms tears up spring training and makes the rotation, which would also help the transitition, since there wouldn’t be so many rookies in 2012.

I really like Davies as a 5th starter, that’s what he is and that’s what he will always be. Davies inconsistancy just kills me though. He has been the best pitcher for the Royals over the last month and half though.

I don’t see where anyone can say a 30 year old a 28 year old journeymen AAA players (Bullington and Humber) will be better than Davies or Bannister, for that matter. I liked what I saw from them the other day, and maybe it will start to click. But you can’t bank on that. I can see a point of letting them try for 1/4 the cost, but Davies is a solid 5th starter. 2 mil for a 5th starter is not a horrible amount either. If they let Davies and Banny go, you know that money won’t get put back into the system. The payroll over the next 2 years is going to be closer to 55 mil than 70 mil.

Bannister on the other hand just isn’t a starting pitcher, at least in the AL.

Didn’t say he was better at all. I said 20-30 ABs is no way to judge someone, but since YOU seem to think it is a way to judge someone I tried to speak your language. We know Guillen was terrible. Nobody knows about Kila yet.
