Melky seems to be struggling a bit more with his “sore toe” than he is letting on,perhaps a chance to give Maier a few games,with Melky having the season he’s having theres no need for Jason Kendall type “heroics” no matter how much he wants to play!

Crow’s mess of a performance last night just enhances my view that Louis Coleman is our best reliever right now & has been for some time!

Abh, I’m with you about Adcock. I don’t think he is next Soria, and neither will rest of league. It’s a gamble worth taking, trying to send him to minors.

Jim, I’m with you about Navarro. When he was acquired it appeared that he would go to Omaha then. KC threw him a cookie, now go to Omaha and improve your craft. He is young, and I know Jim would agree that if Royals need a utility guy, then bring up Falu. Navarro may still compete for a starting spot some day, so send him down so he can play every day.

Pina may only be a backup, but let’s see what the kid has. No need to give him the Kila treatment.

J.J. Cooper (of Baseball America on question relating to Giavotella): Giavotella can really hit, and I’ve been told that no one can throw a fastball by him. Quick hands at the plate. In the field the reviews are much more mixed. If he can show average defense at second base he could play in the big leagues for quite a while.

J.J. Cooper (of Baseball America on catching prospects in KC): I don’t think Pina can be an everyday catcher. Salvador Perez, who isn’t far away, is a better receiver and better at the plate. Pina may be able to stick as a backup catcher though. I know he’s had a nice couple of games offensively, but Pina has shown little power and only decent on-base ability in the minors.

% – It’s not a cereal, it just means a big breakfast typically with lots of protein, e.g. eggs, bacon, sausage, and ham plus biscuits and gravy.

He’s certainly earned it:) I think Cain will continue to be the next great hope for the internet and we’ll see him in September, maybe in center to keep Melky’s arbitration value down. Plus range, but isn’t hitting much better at Omaha than Melky is here and doesn’t have much different an arm than Melky.

I was surprised that Pina got the second start – but since he’ll only be here for the 7-day time period, you might as well play him every game to see how he competes on this level. There will be a big decision next spring on which two catchers to keep – find out about Pina since the opportunity presented itself (Royals wouldn’t have done this otherwise).

The same finally is true about Gio – find out now what he can do so decisions in the off-season and spring training can be better decisions. Let’s start the bring up Monty campaign now…

Not sure how much I trust sabremetrics on defense when they show Billy a superior defensive 1B to Hosmer.

“Where does he rank offensively?”

Near the bottom.

“I still think Aviles was the better player and should have played the last 3 months.”

Aviles played himself out of town and getting Yam Navarro and Kendall Volz was a steal in return for him. I hope he does well in Boston and he can help against LHP, but hitting .220 with bad defense won’t even beat out Chris Getz. Not like Aviles was even close to Gio in Omaha. That made the decision easy, one to one comparison.

We’ll start seeing tonight. Gio will get a solid one month to lay the ground work for 2012 spring training, then I expect Yam Navarro to get a look at 2nd. Right now I think Navarro has the inside track for 2B next year.

I’d tend to — just more typical “Royals”.

Appropriate rest and off time in terms of performance is missing from the Yost conception of things, and so we have such as Escobar and Hosmer played into the ground. you can never give Butler a couple of days a weeks reps at 1b etc. type of mentality. in Catcher Pena’s week to shine u play Pina instead. Yost, why Royals likely will continue to underperform.
