you said this in the post right before Clark’s. Most rational people would think you are implying he played more games at SS in any given season than 2B.

Clark, as I see comments about going to the deadline and evaluating, can we get an article about what kind of SP would be available for a 3 month rental at the deadline this year. We know the FA crop is thin. What about possible deadline bait if KC is still in contention in July?

I get that you hate Getz. I get that I see him as an adequate LH back-up middle-infielder. I get that you love weak fielding, low-hitting 2Bs with a little pop in their bats. We aren’t covering any new ground here.

Over twice what the four inches shorter Gio managed, and that hitting ahead of Escobar.

Average is better than Giavotella and Getz has been an SS most of his career, so just a matter of reps.

Falu is a likely utility guy, been on his bandwagon all year due to his versatility and adequate bat. Without having to protect Adcock there will be room for two back-up infielders and a leftie with speed is useful. I still see Yam getting a good shot at 2B, as an SS he has the speed and range, seems to have some pop and possibilities for average. I think that’s why the Royals got him and I think he’ll get the chance to compete for the position.

True, but it is an element in his value. If the Royals had a real 2B prospect, there would be no need for Getz, but as is he is in the mix. Had Gio actually hit and played less than brutal defense we wouldn’t even be discussing Getz. That’s why I consider 2B to be a systemic weakness. Our “hope” at 2nd is a sorta slow guy who hit .260 in Arkansas. Best may be to trade Clint Robinson and some others for an adequate second string 2B from another team.

So the solution needs to come from in house for the first half of the season. I am on board the Gio-train for 300 at bats and then evaluate. Happily, that is what I expect to happen.

Falu, Y.Navarro, and Seratelli can all do that. Colon is still an option. He was given a pretty hard assignment in his first full season. He will probably be back at AA playing SS and some 2B to start the season, and I think he will figure things out.

I also agree with the assessment of the Royals farm system concerning 2B options – you could list maybe eight to ten guys in line for a shot at 2B in the next few years – yet none really excite any of us. This is where and when I would put together a nice package to get an upgrade for 2B to join the Hos/Moose wave. There has to be somebody better available somewhere – go get one!
