I don’t know why you say that. He hasn’t performed well enough to even be in the AAA rotation this spring or last season. Montgomery is not one of the guys I would pencil in for the future in KC. You may have a good reason, but as of now, I just don’t see it.

Mendoza, on the other hand, looks like a real find. He apparently made some changes in his delivery last season in Omaha and it looks like his improvement is both real and significant. I’d expect to see him in the rotation to start the season.

I share your concerns with Soria, Zack Daddy. I do feel better knowing that Greg Holland is there and throwing well again. My bigger concern is how long Ned would stick with Soria if he continues to struggle.

What is up with Johnny Giovatella? He seems to be hitting pretty well this spring and I see no problems with his defense, why is so underrated?

This depressing, after all the prospecty-goodness praise heaped on our MiLB pitchers the last few years… No mention of any royals:

Baseball America:
True No. 1 starters may be the hardest talents to find in baseball. There aren’t that many pitching prospects with plus stuff, command and makeup, and I use a stricter definition than most. For instance, I’m bullish on Rangers lefthander Martin Perez, I can’t slap a No. 1 tag on a guy who had a 6.43 ERA, 72 hits allowed and a 37-20 K-BB ratio in 49 Triple-A innings last year, even if he was young for the level at age 20. I’m more comfortable projecting him as a No. 2 starter.

By my count, I see 11 prospects who grade as No. 1 starters, with the Diamondbacks (Trevor Bauer, Tyler Skaggs), Mariners (Taijuan Walker, Danny Hultzen) and Pirates (Gerrit Cole, Jameson Taillon) having two each. Arizona has a potential third in Archie Bradley, if he can repeat and command his overpowering fastball and curveball.

The other No. 1 starter prospects are Matt Moore (Rays), Yu Darvish (Rangers), Julio Teheran (Braves), Dylan Bundy (Orioles) and Shelby Miller (Cardinals). My next tier of pitching prospects includes Carlos Martinez (Cardinals), Perez, Drew Pomeranz (Rockies), Jacob Turner (Tigers) and Jarrod Parker (Athletics).

It’s early and its spring training but so far, the rotation has given the Royals what they paid for. They just don’t have that guy you can hand a ball to when you need a quality start. They’re gonna be operating in a “just dont get knocked around too bad so we can hand the ball to the bullpen by the 6th”.

Clark-Agree about Paulino, too. Guys on radio last night were making excuse that he may not have pitched well because he did not have a clean start of the game (not just clean start of an inning). I have trouble swallowing that, but Paulino was a god-send last year. Let the kid start games until he proves he is not up to the job. But the bullpen is not an option for him.
