nordic that’s a fairly easy response if u’ve ever been out on an athletic field. sports is performance and injury prevention. able managers particularly concentrate on the latter since talent only plays if it’s actually out there. there are known injury causing variables to both pitchers and position players. e.g. avoiding playing an out of shape player harder than the player’s condition warrants. that’s one of the rules. there are many. here’s #1 for u mostly practiced by the Royals in violation–u never do anything with a pitcher (such as sending Soria out to pitch with a torn ligament) unless u’re 100% sure the pitcher can perform without injury (see–Gill Meche). Of course a few injuries are pure accident. If u read Royal’s poster nation, u’d think all of them are. stuff u likely will fail to find in Sabermetrics, though one day that will catch up.

hey fb, you’re right. if yost hadn’t started Perez and let him throw 100 pitches in his debut on the mound he probably would be fine. and if the royals had just kept mcclure and hillman, no wait, they were the problem, no wait, yost is the problem. hey, how about you tell us who the perfect mgr/pitching coach combo that won’t injure catchers is instead of telling us who it isn’t. i’ll be waiting.

let’s see. one potato, two potatoes… so far Yost has taken the probable favorites for AL Central and injured Soria, Wood, Paulino, Perez and Pena and declared that giovatella, a great defensive 2b by every report from the minors with much better range than the other two, as unable to play D. Same stupidity Yost foists on B. Pena. Impressive. Luckily that Royals have had 15 years of drafting near the top and plenty of replacements, therefor.

Jed…in reality, Cain is having the best ST in Arizona of any player in MLB. Mendoza is a close second. Yet, few are skeptical of Cain’s performance and religiously assume he is a defensive and offensive upgrade over Melky. He may be, but why the different treatment by so many between Cain and Mendoza? They have both shown some success at the MLB level. Stats are important, but I think there is some value to the quote we have hear–BELIEVE WHAT YOU SEE. So, we will see about many of our players in less than two weeks. Then, we can start believing…or not.

Ah, the love of ST stats! Let’s see what happens to Mendoza when it starts to count. We have seen this episode before and it ain’t pretty. Getz is supposedly also a changed man now in ST. He has overhauled his swing! Still sluggin under .300 BUT best ST in the history of whatever!

I was listening to Mendoza’s last start on the Giants radio feed & they were very inpressed with his 2-1 count off speed breaking ball which flys over into the strikezone & gives the pitcher back the advantage “a brave pitch but great if you have it in your armoury”,they also eulogised about his cutter in & slider away which comes back over the plate both low enough & very deceptive!
