This is a great signing. The Royals look like they’re finally starting to follow the Rays blueprint of locking up their young talent before they can leave, and they should start to reap the rewards soon.

I would say Kevin Seitzer is the person who deserves the next contract.

Cain will be next if he produces. Maybe Duffy although I think signing a pitcher for too many years is a big gamble for any team, but especially one with limited payroll unless options are built in as with Soria.

Don’t mind the K’s, because a significant amount of them were watching borderline pitches go by, which is a direct result of Seitzer’s approach (wait for yours) and led to the other benefits. Logic would say he’ll start getting more of those close calls as most consistent veteran hitters do, or foul them off as he becomes more and more comfortable.

The Alex Gordon signing coupled w/ Perez and Escobar make this a great off season for Dayton even while ignoring the pitching staff all together. It’s nice not to have to worry about Gordon anymore.

At the end of the day, Boras still has to adhere to his clients needs and wishes. If the Royals build a winner around Hosmer and make this more fun then the blast he seems to all ready be having day in and day out, then I could see an extension happening. Obviously the sooner the better as Eric seems to be heading towards elite player status. The culture is changing. Winning more games than you play and finishing in contention is all that’s missing.

After Joey Votto’s recent extension with the Reds (10 year, $225 million), where do you see Hosmer’s (potential) contract? 10 year/ $80 million? Or do you think its possible for a Tulowitzki-like deal with Boras as his agent?
