As far as the Reds are concerned perhaps they saw a positive influence for there young players, just a shame the Royals couldnt see it allthough i do agree he would have had to take a pay cut!

Good trading season for Royals, they dump a lot of dead weight and none of them did that well and several got hurt and we got some things back, a couple of legit players who have a shot in KC. Collins, Blanco, May are any of the guys given up worth more than them? not even considering AA talent we got. I would not trade any of them straight up for anyone we traded. I like Pods the best and might give May up for him if I was contending. Ankiel-Guillen-Farnsy-Bloomers no way would I take them over those 3 and I'm not even that big a Blanco fan but he's better than those guys.

Well Bloomy did a competent job in his role as a utility player. Let's look at the positive parts of his game: good bunter, good contact hit and run kind of guy, decent defense, good baserunner with decent speed who also swiped some bases. He played hard every time he was written in the lineup. There are a lot of guys who have better talent but many of the guys left on this team have some bigger holes in their overall game compared to Willie. For what he was employed to do, I think he performed rather well.

The Reds have lots of nagging injuries. Bloomquist can fill in for all of those, and help them rest their regulars now that the Central is close to wrapped up. As a role player, he's fine, just like Ross Gload. The trouble is when a last-place team makes him a semiregular.

I never liked Bloomquist only because of how he was used. Overused. Another lifer bench guy that we gave a career contract and career playing time only because well, we just suck. Other recent examples of a Tony Graff and Ross Gload come to mind. Nice players to have but should never be started 5 times a week. That being said, anyone find it ironic that Brayan Pena goes out and wins AL player of the week? Good for him. Kendall trotting out there all gritty... 120 games of .250 avg and less pop in his bat than a pitcher maybe shouldnt be a position not up for competition. I hate to celebrate his injury but in all honesty, he's a poster child of our brutal process. No reason he should have been signed and he definately should have never batted 2nd nor played everyday if ever.

Possibly Cincy wants to sign WB for next year. The OP misreads Bloomquist imo. WB was one of the Royals better performers. If used properly--which is an oxymoron for this org--at 2b Bloomquist automatically becomes a top 1/3 2b in MLB and maybe better. Aviles at Short. Bloomquist at 2b. Playoff teams have done a lot worse. Royals use of Bloomquist is same as the tortured thought process that continues to play the .235 hitting 2b over the .295 one. Aviles is #3 in MLB 2b BA.

I first read about the Bloomquist trade on Facebook and if you were judging solely on the comments made on the article, you'd have thought that Bloomquist was the second coming Brett. He was a decent role player but in the big picture, as mentioned in this post, he's just a guy who filled a role that just about anyone can fill. He was offered a lot of money to come fill that role in Kansas City and he was smart enough to take that big payday. Now he is gone and he cannot take away playing time from the young players who should be playing.

I will not underestimate Dayton Moore again. Even though the trading deadline passed, he was able to turn Jose Guillen into something and now he was somehow able to do the same with Bloomquist.

Bloomquist is a much better fit in the NL anyway. His versatility is just what a manager needs who thinks double switches are the cat's meow. His base running skills are much more appropriate in the NL, too.

I wish him well but he should never have worn the KC uniform.
