Duffy might deserve a call up before June, but Monty is walking way too many. He’ll get “Kyle’d” in the show with that WHIP. He needs to hone his control, his stuff is good enough to offset the BB in AAA, but MLB hitters will be patient and make him pay when he has to come in on 2-0.

My contention is that once the starting pitchers at AAA have run out 6-7 straight games of kicking a$$ they’re ready to move up. Monty has 5 games and a 2.67 ERA. Duffy has 4 starts and 0.9 ERA. Mazzaro has 4 starts and a 4.66 ERA, but his last 3 games he’s given up 5 ER, so he’s maybe a game behind in his development compared to the other two.

Like I said before, if you give Duffy and Monty 2 more starts each, and they are still sitting at sub 3 ERAs, I think it’s time to give at least one of them a go in place of Davies.

The bullpen is pretty good this year, if the starting pitching could go more than 5-6 innings. The rotation has some nice pieces. They all have a couple of decent starts a piece. How long do you have to hold back prospects? I mean if they have 1-2 months of domination at a level can they be moved up? If that’s the case after another start or 2 by Monty, Duffy, and Teaford they should probably be given a chance in KC. Same goes for the hitters. After a slow start Moustakas seems to be heating up a little. And Hosmer has taken no steps back this year.

I’m not even worried about the Royals contending this year, but at some point you have to let the top prospects that are going to be part of the 2012 World Series team get their feet wet.

Um, yes it does play the same. I’m not annointing Gordon yet. Or Betemit. I don’t see what the hurry is with Hosmer at all. It’s highly unlikely that this starting pitching can contend anyway so the Royals are still in a position where the prospects can wait and the young players can play to see who is for real.

It’s not impatient, its realisitic. With Hosmer coming up fast, where does Kila fit in? He doesn’t bring the versatility to be able to play 3B or OF, so he just doesn’t have a spot.
As for the ABs being meaningless, would the record play the same if he had hit well in those 250 ABs? I highly doubt it. Bottom line is he hasn’t hit while Betemit has, and he has no future on the team based on prospects coming up at his position.

250 ABs is next to meaningless. How did Mark Teahan’s 250 ABs look after he returned from the minors. They looked the 3B of the future.

I’ve been banging the drum for Gordon all this time that he struggled as well and I’ll readily admit it’s too early to say ‘he’s got it’. I would submit that the same people who are giving up on Kila are the ones who gave up on Gordon, bought into Teahans hot half-year, etc. It’s called impatience.

That was a nice sweep this weekend. The Twins may be playing badly, but that doesn’t mean the Royals would go out and sweep them. This team is doing the little things that past years versions didn’t. Maybe it still ends up with a 73-76 win team, but at least it is fun to watch.
As for Kila, he had his shot and blew it. He was ahead of Betemit on the depth chart, but Kila can’t hit and Betemit can. So, Kila was dropped to the spot previously slotted for Betemit to fill. I don’t feel bad for Kila, I don’t think he was mismanaged either. Based on his results in his last 258 AB’s at this level, it seems the Royals knew what he was. They gave him a shot anyway and he has done nothing with it. With Hosmer hitting 400 after a month in Omaha, its hard to see Kila on the roster come mid-June.

I still think it’s way too early to adjust any organizational plans. I’d like to see Mazarro, but aside from that it’s too early to bring up guys because of the illusion of contention.

I’d give KK through the road trip ending on 5/15 to bring his batting line up to something respectable. I think that’s 12 more games, around 40 or 45 AB’s which would put him at 100+ AB’s on the season, which is a legitimate (though still small) sample size. If he hasn’t straightened out AND the Royals are still contending, you almost have to pull the trigger on a Hosmer call up.

Don’t get me started on Super Two – it’s moot.

Also Duffy and Monty (and Mazarro?) will be hard to keep down if they each post 2 more dominating starts.

The way Aviles has been hitting the last week or so, there is no way you can take him out of the lineup. But Getz defense is MUCH better than Aviles. Not only can Getz get to more balls, he is smarter with it once he has it. Aviles makes very bad decisions playing the field. But 2B defense is not as key as SS, C, and CF. Betemit also needs to be in the lineup the way he is hitting, but his defense leaves something to be desired. None of Getz, Aviles, or Betemit really do anything for the future. They will be replaced by Moustakas, Colon, and Giavotella very soon.

Moustakas is not going to be a defensive dynamo, but that bat needs to come up and get in the lineup sooner than later. Same with Hosmer. It’s really too bad for C.Robinson, b/c he has hit at every level. He is just a little older and a less thought of prospect. But he will crush for someone.
