Abh, the thing about trades is, the other team has to be interested also. It takes two to tango, if you will. I don't think any of those players are a key part of a championship, but any one of them could be a piece. Whether its Dwyer/Melville as a longman/swingman, or Lough/Dyson as a 4th or 5th outfielder. You would think there would be a package of C.Rob/Kila, Lough/Orlando, Melville/Sample for a up and coming ace, right? But I just don't think it would happen.

I don't like Marks thrown in with that group, Daniel. At one point Marks was a highly thought of prospect out of Louisville. Now that he is throwing his slider again, he has really come along. None of them are probably "ace" material, but Mazzaro, SOS, and Mendoza just don't strike out people like Marks does/will.

Who's with me on trading quantity for quality (prospects)? Yeah, yeah, probably no one, I know. But, the Braves are our favorite dance partner and over-loaded with pitching... So what about offering several of the Dwyers, Melvilles, Eibners, Loughs, Dysons (national league player!), etc. for one Mr. Randall Delgado? Braves would still have a good MLB staff under contract, Teheran, Vizcaino, and Minor in the wings, some of our reinforcements, and we would have a RHP for the 2012 - 2016 rotation. This is so easy.

Speaking of random ruminations, I'd love to hear your take on what will become of the group of "2nd tier" pitchers in the system, namely: Mazzaro, O'Sullivan, Mendoza, and Marks. Seems like they're good enough to keep around for emergencies but not good enough to make the ML roster on their own.

The good thing about where we are in the process is that the guys in the minors no longer have to move up quickly.
The less than stellar pitching stats in the minors this year should improve next year since those guys probably will be at the same level.
Hitters like Colon and Myers can start again at AA - build up some offensive confidence.
And Bubba strikes me as a guy who will take a little more time to develop than say Hosmer.

Even if Giavotella isn't the one, it won't hurt the process much. There is Yam and Rey Navarro, Colon, Bianchi, and Falu, right off the top of my head that could do better than Getz. I really like Giavotella's style. He isn't flashy with the glove, but he has improved every single season. I think the bat is good enough to keep him there for at least a couple of years.

There are only a couple of real concerns on this roster right now. 1) When and How much do you lock Gordon up for? 2) Which one of Duffy, Monty, Odorizzi, Lamb, Dwyer, Smith, Marks, Arguelles becomes the #1/2 combo to take this team to the playoffs? and 3) Who out of Cabrera, Francoeur, Cain, or Lough is going to hold down CF/RF until Bubba and Myers are fixtures out there in 2013-2018?

Because we all know that doubles down the line don't really count - only doubles in the gap are 'true' extra base hits. I expect Baseball Reference to remove most of the 232 doubles and triples David DeJesus hit as a Royal any day now based on that logic.

Jim - Rey Navarro is just on a hot streak.

There is no defending Chris Getz being on your major league roster. He simply is not a major league player. Anyone his age who can rack up the equivalent of a full season of plate appearances and generate an OPS under .600 had better be a pitcher or gone. If Gio isn't the answer (a terrible blow to the process) then lets keep looking because Getz isn't either.

"Johnny Giavotella has four extra-base hits in 44 plate appearances, Chris Getz had 8 in 396. Why wasn’t this move made sooner?"

Defense. Those who watch the highlights would also note that two of xbh's were ground balls down the first base line. Let's see how Gio does the rest of the year and we can crunch some numbers and try to decide where the balance point is between brutal defense and gritty, punch and judy offense. Rey Navarro is looking good in Springdale:)
