Shouldn’t your headline have been Gardner defeats Gordon if you were trying to be analagous to Dewey defeats Truman?

Anyway, fabulous year from Alex. He deserved the Gold Glove basically as much as the average gold glove winner, so I am not going to worry about the rest of it. And totally agree about comeback player of the year, as well.

His overall season/offensive production this year I’m sure helped the Gold Glove nomination as well. Speaking purely defense, Gardner is the better choice. Palmeiro won one year with something like 30 total starts at 1st. Regardless, it’s great momentum for the franchise. Now I’d love to see the front office actually lock him up instead of a half ass atempt with a couple mutual option that will frustrate him. I’m curious to when Hosmer becomes a star and it’s time to get paid, if KC is going to go right at him with a market value deal or just let him walk ala Prince Fielder and say, “there’s nothing we could do”. So far, everything has been hunky dorey w/ the best farm system in baseball and a sub $40 million dollar payroll. Sooner or later, the MLB team will have to win and compete with the rest of the league. I hope the Glass’ want what we all want.

Kyle – Not sure where you got the angle that I was hating on Gordon for winning. But I can’t write a post about the best defensive players in LF and not mention Gardner, who, as kcghost said, is a superior outfielder. I’m happy he won, but the voters missed on this one.

Deep Dixie Blue – I think Ellsbury already won comeback player of the year award. There’s a goofy award. Right up there with manager of the year.

And he’s still learning the position. Of the three OFs I have the most confidence he will continue the upward trend because the more comfortable he becomes in the field, the more relaxed he will be at the plate. Kid obviously has the tools to be above average with the bat when his head is right. A little confidence, less pressure to be the man and significant upgrades in production around him will lead to good things. Give him the deal now and show the other kids production equals commitment from the franchise.
Roy Oswalt for two years at $20 mil with an option and incentives? Anybody? Smells like a nice bridge to me.

Craig, this was kind of a snarky post. You were hating on Gordon for winning the Award for most of the post. You also joke about the Gold Glove in general. It is a great honor for a Royal to get national attention. Congrats to Alex!

Deep Dixie Blue, what is he coming back from? He hasn’t ever “really” been a top player in the MLB. He did have some high praise as a prospect, but this is really his breakout year in KC.

Do they still give out a comeback player of the year? If so, Gordon should be a shoo-in for that as well, going from a 671 OPS with 18 extra base hits in 2010 to a 879 OPS with 72, along with the gold glove.

Great all around season, here’s hoping he stays healthy.
