Clark – In the article you said “… look back to last summer when the Royals, hell bent on taking the best of what was left of five talented arms …” but that should be “four talented arms”, i.e. Cole, Hultzen, Bauer, and Bundy.

KC-at-the-bat – I don’t think you can compare Gausman (a current, not former, SEC pitcher) with Hochever (and Crow for that matter) who refused to sign with the Dodgers (Nationals for Crow) and played independent league ball for part of the following year before being drafted by the Royals.

This year’s draft just sucks. Not much in it and what little there is will be gone by the time we draft.

Chad, how many 19/20 year old kids do you see in the majors? MLB draft picks take some time to develop. This isn’t the NFL, where your first 3 rounds will be impact players right away. 3-4 years means there were no setbacks moving up. They started in Low A, and moved a level per year. That is pretty darn good.

Moose, Hosmer, and Duffy did come up abnormally early for Moore’s taste.
1. Moustakas drafted in 2007, debuted in 2011
2. Hosmer drafted in 2008, debuted in 2011
3. Duffy drafted in 2007, debuted in 2011

There absolute best still took 3-4 years. So I repeat Chris, 5-6 years for good MLB prospects to linger.

I would love to have Cabrera back in KC. Most of us would. But from his perspective, he has to be very happy to be playing for the Giants. Wouldn’t you? Bigger crowds, nice weather, pennant race. I don’t think he’d want to come back here, if he had a choice.

I would still rather have Gordon locked up at 4/37.5 but I would rather have Melky at 2/13.5 than Francouer, that’s for sure.

Is it possible to draft Melky?

I know we were all a-okay with the Sanchez trade when it happened, and since we didn’t kill him for it at the time, it’s not fair to kill GMDM for it now. But, wow, that trade sucked. Melky is absolutely killing it. Like NL MVP discussion killing it. And all with a smile on his face.

Granted, Melky did not have the season Gordon had last year, but at this point, who would you rather have locked up for 4 years and 37.5 million? Because of his defense and plate discipline, I still think there’s a chance Gordon turns out to be the better player, but in retrospect I think Melky deserved better (at the very least, he deserved consideration for the RF spot that Frenchy was handed).

Every time Sanchez drags out a 4 IP, 6 BB, 4 SO, 3 ER line we’ll remember that.

I’m getting a bad omen with Gausman. He is a former SEC pitcher who originally rejected the Dodgers. As you mentioned, the assigned value to the pick is $3.5 million.

The Royals already drafted a former SEC pitcher who originally rejected the Dodgers (Hochevar). And they paid him a $3.5 million signing bonus. He now ranks as one of the worst starting pitchers ever with at least 100 starts.

Chad – Hosmer, Moose, Duffy, etc would all disagree with your assessment of Moore letting them “linger” in the minors too long.

If I’ve learned anything about the Royals, it’s that the draft really doesn’t matter for 4-6 years. Anyone they draft won’t see MLB until 2016 or later. Bubba might make it to AA in 2014. Moore loves to let his “Prospects” linger in Minor league ball far too long. However, they do need to concentrate on pitching as sole priority in draft, and trades. If all goes like it has been, they may be in the market to buy in July as opposed to sell.
